Before installing, read the Security and Requirements sections of its README and tell me what it reads and writes, which commands it runs, whether it uses the network, and which Claude Code version, OS and terminal it needs. If everything looks fine, run claude plugin marketplace add 0xnicholasy/claude-mod-todo-list and claude plugin install todo-list@claude-mod-todo-list, then remind me to run /reload-plugins in my session.Send this to Claude Code so it reads the author’s instructions before installing.

Introduction
Todo List is a Claude Code mod that shows Claude's task plan as a tree in a pane and the status line. Claude writes the plan (up to 3 levels, 60 nodes) through a plugin-registered tool, mcp__todo-list__plan; each node shows its status alongside a progress bar.
- Live activity: running a tool, waiting for permission or your answer, compacting, and subagent counts come from session events, not Claude's own report.
- Plan first: Edit, Write, Bash and other state-changing tools are denied until a plan exists. Read-only tools and subagent calls are never blocked. Enforcement fails open, pauses after 3 denies in a turn, and can be turned off with
/todo offorenforce=false. /todo: reopen the pane, clear the plan, toggle enforcement, set the accent color.
The plan tool is answered by the plugin's own hook, not a separate MCP server. The author states it opens no network connections of its own, reads or writes no files and runs no processes; only the accent color is stored. It does add a planning instruction to the system prompt and sends the current plan to the model each turn through Claude Code's own requests. Requires Claude Code 2.1.289 and the terminal. Known limits: third-party MCP tools are not gated, and all Bash (even ls) is gated.
Who it is for
- People who want to see which step Claude is on
- People who want Claude to plan before editing
Requirements
- Claude Code ≥ 2.1.289
- Requires the terminal surface; the pane and toast need it.
- By default blocks Edit/Write/Bash etc. until a plan exists; disable with /todo off or enforce=false.
