Introduction

QA Guide is a Claude Code mod: when Claude asks something with AskUserQuestion, it opens a pane next to the dialog so you can answer without scrolling back.

  • AI explanation, generated in the background: a summary of the instructions Claude is working under, why it is asking now, what each option (numbered like the dialog) leads to, and a one-line recommendation.
  • Shows your recent prompts and the tail of Claude's lead-up; after you answer, option cards, your choice, and a history of the last 20 questions (p / n / l).
  • Plain-text questions: a local heuristic (0 tokens) detects questions at the end of a reply and shows a band above the prompt with an Explain button; a model is called only on request.
  • Compact mode by default sends Haiku a bounded summary (≤12,000 characters); Full context forks the whole session on its model.
  • English and Japanese, picked automatically.

The author states it makes no network requests of its own, starts no processes and writes no files; state lives in session memory and model calls use Claude Code's own account. Requires Claude Code 2.1.287+ (Desktop Code tab 2.1.286+); the pane opens on its own at 144+ columns. The preview is illustrative.

Who it is for

  • People who lose track of what Claude's question is about in long sessions
  • People who want a recommendation before deciding

Requirements

  • Claude Code ≥ 2.1.287
  • Desktop Code tab needs 2.1.286+.
  • The pane opens on its own at 144+ columns (fullscreen preferred); /qa-guide opens it anyway.
