Introduction

next-prompts is a Claude Code mod with a panel above the prompt that does three things:

  • Next prompts: after each turn, Haiku reads the last 3 exchanges plus project state (goal, open tasks, git status) and proposes 3 prompts ordered by impact; with unfinished tasks, #1 continues the next one. Click one or type 1/2/3 and Enter to send it.
  • Estimate timer: registers mcp__next-prompts__estimate and adds a system-prompt rule asking Claude for a time estimate before changes. Until then, main-session Edit, Write, NotebookEdit and Bash are refused (subagents exempt). A bar shows elapsed time, projected finish and the plan, turning yellow when over.
  • Goal and tasks: picks up TodoWrite / TaskCreate / TaskUpdate and shows the goal, a progress bar and per-task timings.

Requests over 2 minutes end with a toast plus, on macOS, a sound and a system notification. There is no marketplace manifest or license file; install by cloning into ~/.claude/mods/next-prompts and enabling it as a plugin. Settings are constants in the code. It is a separate project from Anthropic's next-steps.

Who it is for

  • People who want ready-to-send next prompts after each turn
  • People who want to see Claude's time estimate and task progress

Requirements

  • No marketplace manifest: clone into ~/.claude/mods/next-prompts, then enable it as a plugin.
  • The sound and notification use afplay and osascript, so they are macOS-only.
  • Settings are constants at the top of hooks/register.tsx.
