Introduction

Measure Guard is a Claude Code mod built on function hooks for the Measure spec-driven workflow. It reads measure/tracks.md and plan.md, shows a progress band above the prompt (track, phase and task position, blocked count), adds a fixed rule section to the system prompt, and sends the current task as a conversation note. In guard mode it denies Edit/Write outside measure/ while no task is in progress, blocks closing a track with open tasks or starting a phase before the previous checkpoint, and checks at turn end for done tasks without a SHA and uncommitted changes (band plus toast). Strict mode adds a TDD guard, a commit-message guard, and can keep the turn open until fixed. Repos without measure/ get Set up / Turn off buttons. /measure-status opens a status pane; /measure-off bypasses the guards. The mod lives in mods/measure-guard of a monorepo; the README only documents loading with --plugin-dir and names no minimum Claude Code version. The preview is illustrative.

Who it is for

  • People using Measure spec-driven development who want Claude to follow the plan and TDD
  • Teams that want to stop edits outside a task and missing commit SHAs

Requirements

  • Needs the Measure workflow (a measure/ folder); works only inside a git repository.
  • README documents only local loading via --plugin-dir (clone, point at mods/measure-guard).
  • README names no minimum Claude Code version; compatibility with the 2.1.287 baseline is unverified.
