Introduction

Ask Notch is a Claude Code mod: when Claude asks a single-choice question with AskUserQuestion, it drops from your Mac's notch as a card you can answer from any app.

  • Click an option to answer; the card never takes your keyboard when it appears.
  • Click the card to use keys: 1–4 picks, Enter confirms the highlighted option (Claude's recommendation), esc hands the question back to Claude Code's own dialog.
  • The text box takes your own answer.
  • /notch cursor opens cards by the pointer, /notch companion cat adds a painted cat, /notch off turns cards off; plain-language settings work too.

While cards are on, it adds a paragraph to Claude's system prompt asking it to put choices to you with AskUserQuestion, and ships the same guidance as a skill, ask-at-the-notch. Multi-select, text and number questions use the native form. The card is helper/card.js run by macOS's own osascript; nothing is compiled. Requires macOS 13+ and Claude Code 2.1.287+; on Windows, Linux and cloud sessions Claude Code asks as usual.
