Introduction
Effort Modes is a function-hooks mod from ModSmith that adds three modes to Mode Registry: ui (low effort), api (medium) and review (max). While one is active it rewrites the main thread's effort on each turn.step; subagents and models without effort are untouched, and a mid-turn switch applies next turn. It requires mode-registry. It makes no model calls of its own, but each switch rebuilds the conversation cache once; the author measured ~$0.11 extra on a 37k-token session on 2.1.287. Switch at task boundaries. No minimum version stated.
Who it is for
- People switching effort between UI tweaks and code review
