clawd-band is a Claude Code mod that puts a coral pixel cat right above the prompt, reacting to what Claude is doing. Unofficial and fan-made; the colour is inspired by Claude's mascot, the pixels are the author's own.
- idle: breathes between turns; after about 27 s it goes to sleep, ears down, eyes shut,
zdrifting. - think: at turn start or an unknown tool, eyes up with a spark.
- edit: Edit, Write and friends, a pencil by its ear.
- search: Read, Grep, WebSearch, Task, craning left and right.
- shell: Bash, ears back, sparks, mouth open.
- ouch: a tool error, eyes squeezed shut, body shaking.
The author states it only draws: no file reads or writes, no network, no saved settings. The cat is ASCII art in sprites.ts; edit the characters to redraw it. Requires Claude Code 2.1.273+ and a terminal; the README still asks for the early-access env var.
Who it is for
- People who want a little animated companion while Claude works
Requirements
- Claude Code ≥ 2.1.273
- The README asks to start with CLAUDE_CODE_ENABLE_FUNCTION_HOOKS=1 (early-access note).
- Terminal only; not shown in the desktop app or IDEs.
