Introduction

Claude Toons is a Claude Code mod that plays small animated cartoons under the spinner while Claude works. Clawd, the Claude Code mascot, stars in every scene, and the scene follows the work: tests become a castle siege, a bug hunt a safari, a long build a rocket on the pad.

  • By default scenes come from 138 ready-made ones bundled with the plugin, at no token cost. A fresh scene is requested only when a task starts or something fails, at most once a minute; the author estimates 1–3% on top of Claude Code's own usage.
  • "Ready-made only" makes no requests at all; "fresh only" draws continuously and costs several times more.
  • Requests use your Claude Code login against the Anthropic Messages API, counting toward plan limits or billed to your API key.
  • /toons shows or hides the cartoons; /toons settings opens settings with measured cost. The director model can be Haiku, Sonnet or Opus.

Install by cloning the repo and loading it with --plugin-dir or CLAUDE_CODE_PLUGIN_DIRS; there is no marketplace. The author says it was built on 2.1.287 as an early-access feature, and cartoons appear only in the terminal. The preview is illustrative.
