Introduction

claude-pokemon is a wait-time mod that keeps a gen 1 pixel Pokémon in the band above your prompt. Pick a partner with /pokemon <mon>; all 151 come in default and shiny.

  • It watches Claude work: a pencil for edits, a magnifier for reads, >_ for shell commands, and a Poké Ball for every subagent
  • It tells you when Claude needs you: a red "!" for questions, plan approvals and permission prompts, and a shake with a sweat drop when a tool fails
  • It grows: answered turns earn XP and mons evolve at their levels from the games; feed and pet it or it gets hungry and lonely
  • It fights and collects: 135 moves with their own animations, and /pokemon catch fills your Pokédex when a wild mon shows up

Variant, nickname, level and meters persist across sessions. Requires Claude Code 2.1.287+ in a truecolor terminal such as iTerm2, Ghostty, kitty or WezTerm, or the desktop app's Code tab; the VS Code extension and mobile app have no band, so it does not show there. The README has no dedicated access section, so process and network access are marked unknown. Not run-tested by this site; the preview is illustrative.

Who it is for

  • People who want something fun while Claude works
  • People who want a visible cue when Claude needs them

Requirements

  • Claude Code ≥ 2.1.287
  • Needs a truecolor terminal or the desktop Code tab.
  • Not shown in the VS Code extension or mobile app.
