Introduction
usage-band is a Claude Code mod that puts a live status band above the prompt, so you don't need /cost or /context. Works in the terminal and the desktop Code tab.
- Model and context: the model, and a context bar that turns amber at 50% and red at 80%.
- Limits: the 5-hour and weekly windows with reset countdowns (subscription plans).
- Prompt cache: time left (from the real 1h or 5m TTL) and the last request's hit rate, read from the API data in the transcript;
cold, new modelafter a switch. - Cost: the session at API prices.
- Handoff button: Haiku writes a hand-off summary,
/clearruns, and the summary lands in the fresh session's prompt box.
The cache segment reads the transcript with sh, tail and grep, so it hides on Windows. The author only says a recent Claude Code is needed.
Who it is for
- Subscribers who want context, limits and cache state at a glance
Requirements
- No Claude Code version stated, only a recent one.
- The cache segment needs macOS or Linux; limits need a subscription.
