Introduction

shot is Dave Kiss's macOS screenshot tool. Its Claude Code plugin (the repo's claude-mod folder) includes a function-hooks module, and this entry covers that mod part:

  • /shot captures your terminal window in the background without moving the cursor or stealing focus (via macOS screencapture, even when covered or minimized).
  • History pane: reads ~/Screenshots and .shot-index.json to list your screenshots, including ones other apps or agents took, searchable by on-screen text (OCR) and description, with reveal-in-Finder and open actions.

The same plugin also bundles shot's MCP server and a skill that teaches Claude to capture, mark up, redact and record; those are outside this site's mod scope but are installed with the plugin.

Requires macOS 13+ and Screen Recording permission for your terminal. The plugin uses a shot already on PATH (such as Homebrew) or downloads the matching release binary. No minimum Claude Code version is stated. An optional background describer, off by default, sends screenshots to Claude Haiku via claude -p. The preview is illustrative.
