Introduction
dashless is a Claude Code mod, about 80 lines of TypeScript, that removes em dashes from what Claude writes before it lands.
- Write: the file content.
- Edit:
new_stringonly;old_stringmust match the file, so it is never touched. - Bash: only
git commitandgh pr/gh issuecreate, edit, comment; every other command runs as is. - Replies: text blocks in Claude's responses, before they are stored.
A dash between words becomes a comma, a dash at the start or end of a line disappears, and a spaced en dash becomes a comma; ranges like 1990–2000 and CLI flags like --force stay. The status line shows a running count, e.g. dashless: 3 em dashes fixed. In the author's same-prompt test, 4 em dashes got through without it and 0 with it.
The author notes mods are not sandboxed, so read the source first. No minimum Claude Code version is stated.
Who it is for
- People who want no em dashes in files, commits and replies
Requirements
- The author notes mods are not sandboxed; read the source before installing.
