Introduction
Cache Warmer is a Claude Code function-hooks mod that, while a large session is idle, sends silent fork requests that stay out of the transcript to refresh the prompt cache; when the warm window ends, sessions above a size threshold are compacted once while the cache is still warm.
- Defaults: ping only above ~100k tokens; about every 50 minutes; stop after ~10 idle hours; compact once above ~500k when the window ends; shared daily keep-alive budget across sessions.
- Commands:
/warmstatus,/warm off|on(optionalall),/warm now. - Cost: the author says keep-alive is not free; long absences can cancel savings—check
/warmspend.
Install with npx degit …/cache-warmer ~/.claude/skills/cache-warmer (not listed in the repo root marketplace). Needs Claude Code 2.1.287+. Different repo from Cache Control on this site. Preview is illustrative.
Who it is for
- People with long idle sessions who want fewer cold full-context resends
Requirements
- Claude Code ≥ 2.1.287
- Install into ~/.claude/skills/cache-warmer via degit/clone; not in the root marketplace.
- Keep-alive spends quota; check /warm for real cost.
