Introduction

Claude iPhone Cam is a Claude Code mod that puts a 📷 snap button above the terminal prompt and grabs one frame from your iPhone through macOS Continuity Camera, with no AirDrop or messaging yourself.

  • After a snap the thumbnail appears above the prompt, with retake and drop buttons.
  • On send, a prompt.submit hook adds one line of context with the JPEG path (only for a typed message while a frame is waiting), and Claude opens it with one Read call.
  • Capture uses ffmpeg -f avfoundation: it lists devices to find the iPhone camera (skipping Desk View), waits 1.5 s for exposure, and writes a full JPEG and a 640 px PNG thumbnail to $TMPDIR/claude-cam/; macOS clears that folder.

Requirements: macOS Ventura+, iOS 16+, iPhone XR or newer, same Apple ID with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on and the iPhone locked nearby, ffmpeg installed, and camera access for your terminal. The code only draws in the terminal. The author states no minimum Claude Code version; listed under the 2.1.287+ mod baseline, not tested here.

The author says it opens no network connections; the frame reaches Anthropic only when Claude reads it. The preview is illustrative.
