Introduction
chat-clean is a Claude Code mod that changes how the chat looks, not what Claude does. It keeps your messages and Claude's replies and folds each turn's tool calls into one line (○ 5 steps this turn ›) that opens in place.
- Name column:
youandclaudebeside messages in the terminal, with timestamps. - Working line: a spinner, the current step in plain words (
Reading app.py) and the time. - Helpers: subagents launched together show as one line above the input with total, done, running and time.
- Errors and questions: API errors become one line saying what happened and what to do; answered questions and slash-command output each collapse to one line.
- Three views:
/feed clean(default),/feed normaland/feed raw(Claude Code's own drawing), switchable mid-turn./feedopens a settings pane;/feed hide|show <kind>toggles row kinds. ctrl+o still shows the full transcript.
In the desktop app, a band above the input shows 5-hour and weekly usage plus pills for running helpers, jobs and tests. The README notes some rows belong to Claude Code and cannot be hidden (hook rows, the reload line, attachment lines like "Loaded CLAUDE.md").
Requires Claude Code 2.1.289+, terminal or desktop. There is no marketplace manifest; the README installs it by cloning into a project's .claude/skills/chat-clean or trying it with claude --plugin-dir.
Who it is for
- People buried by tool-call output on long tasks who want to read the conversation
- Desktop users who want usage and running helpers at a glance
Requirements
- Claude Code ≥ 2.1.289
- No marketplace manifest: the README installs by git clone into .claude/skills/chat-clean.
- Or clone it and try with claude --plugin-dir; in an open desktop app run /reload-plugins.
- Works in the terminal and desktop app; the name column is terminal-only.
